Want to get under Conor McGregor? Hit him where it really hurts.. In his achievements before the UFC in fight organisation 'Cage Warriors'.
That was apparently Rafael Dos Anjos' thought process as he rather randomly decided to have a pop at the proving ground where Conor first started his run towards the UFC, and the standard of opponents that he fought along the way, when he was informed that the Dubliner had held belts at two weight classes in 'Cage Warriors' back in the day.
UFC lightweight division isn't the belt he got in Ireland when he fought a guy with a record of 2-7. It's a different world. He fought guys that don't even have Sherdog pages. He holds belts off his amateur show in Ireland. It's a different story to hold two UFC belts.
Lightweight division is a different story. We'll see. Everybody talks. Anthony Pettis talked before the fight. Donald Cerrone talked before the fight. See what happened? I'll let him talk and we'll see what happens. I hope he's training hard. I think he's going to be scared once I hit him.
Cage Warriors isn't the same as the UFC? Thanks for that Rafael..
Also, Pettis and Cerrone did indeed talk before both fights, however, as Conor will tell you.. They don't talk like he talks. If Rafael Dos Anjos thinks he is in for the same treatment that Pettis and Cerrone gave him, then he is in for a big surprise.
The Brazilian then went on to contradict himself somewhat, as after saying that "everybody talks" and that he has seen it all before, he then explained how the most difficult part of his training camp will be not hitting McGregor before they meet in the Octagon:
I don't feel any pressure. I have to take care of my family, my team and my legacy. It's one more fight. There isn't anything special in this fight. I'm just happy to put my hands on this guy and make him humble. I think the toughest part of this camp will be not putting my hands on him before the fight happens.
Isn't that exactly what McGregor wants to hear?
Regardless, Cage Warriors was/is a cracking organization, and certainly not limited to just Irish amateurs, so it's a poor start to the verbal warfare from Dos Anjos after his coach had offered a decent first effort.
