Initially, you presumed it was a late April Fool's joke.

Then as you read on, Norman Parke clarified that the statement on his release for the UFC was not a prank - it was very real. The Antrim fighter is out of work after being let go by Dana White and Co.

The dropping of Parke would seem harsh. Sure, he had lost three of his last four fights but two of those were by split decision. Overall, he was 5-3-1 in the promotion. A more than respectable record.

His last win was in October at UFC Fight Night Dublin against Reza Madadi.

The weigh-in for that fight was one of Parke's most memorable moments in the UFC.

Previous to the event at the 3Arena, the Iranian-born Swedish fighter had been out of action for 18 months.

The reason: a 14-month imprisonment for his part in the burglary of a handbag store.

With that piece of information in mind, Parke prodcued a pink handbag during the face-off which he threw at the feet of Madadi.

It was a moment which those in attendance loved.
