After two years out of action, Nate Diaz is set for a blockbuster comeback against Dustin Poirier in the co-main event of UFC 230 at Madison Square Garden, November 3.
The Las Angeles Times first reported the news and MMAFighting later published a similar story. The bout is expected to be announced at a press conference later today.
Diaz has not fought since his rematch against Conor McGregor at UFC 202 in August of 2016. It was initially thought he may face Georges St-Pierre at UFC 227 but that proved unworkable. Poirier has also faced McGregor back in 2014 when he lost by TKO in the first round. This will be his fourth fight in 12 months including an impressive victory against Eddie Alvarez.
For the past two years, Diaz maintained his sole interest was a trilogy against McGregor but a victory over Poirier would strengthen his hand in terms of orchestrating that.
