Fabricio Werdum's reign as UFC heavyweight champion didn't last a year and not even one title defence.
Last night, just 2:47 into the first round of their bout at UFC 198, Stipe Miocic knocked out the champion. He did so in the Brazilian's own country. There were 45,000 at the Arena da Baixada in Curitiba.
Early exchanges between the two were cagey but then Werdum became impatient made the mistake of chasing Miocic. The Croatian-American caught Werdrm with a right hand to put him on the deck.
Miocic moved in to finish off the 38-year-old but referee Dan Miragliotta already knew the fight was over.
