The UFC's short film ahead of McGregor v Alvarez gives great insight into the two fighters' preparations for UFC 205 on Saturday as well as the history behind the recent legalisation of MMA in the state of New York (where the fight will be held).
The hype is really building now ahead of Conor McGregor's attempt to win the UFC lightweight title against Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205 in Madison Square Garden, New York on Saturday.
McGregor comes into the fight with a 20-3 record while Alvarez stands at 28-4. The Irishman will have a tough task on his hands when the two clash at the top of the packed bill, with Alvarez generally regarded as the best lightweight fighter in the world after he won the title with a sensational TKO of Rafael dos Anjos in July.
Whatever you think about the UFC, you can't deny they are good at promoting the big fights. One way in which they are doing so for 'McGregor-Alvarez' is through the excellent 'Embedded' Vlog Series. Another is by releasing an excellent short film entitled 'Fighting For History'. Sixteen minutes long, it gives a great insight into both fighters' preparation for the bout as well as the evolution of the UFC since its "There are no rules!" days in the 90s. It also sheds some light on how New York finally legalised the sport of MMA in April of this year.
The film sees McGregor in an abrasive mood, confrontational and unhappy when asked about a problem other fighters might have with him seeking to hold two UFC belts at the same time:
What the fuck are you talking about? I fight every fuckin' week! I'm the most active fighter in the game, in all weight divisions. And I fight at all weight divisions.
Of course I can take the two belts. I can defend them simultaneously.
And as usual he didn't mince his words on the topic of Alvarez, who mocked McGregor's "little boy belt":
My fist is as big as his head. So he can say whatever he wants about the little boy belt. It's the big boy bank that I have.
Meanwhile, Alvarez voiced his disapproval of McGregor's flash lifestyle.
You're not gonna see me driving fancy cars, buying jewellery, doing stupid shit like that. That's not what I'm here for.
I hope I beat the fuck out of this guy and then go home.
It's guaranteed to be a hell of a fight. You can watch the full short below.
