The UFC's ranking system is cannon fodder for legitimate criticism at the best of times. It's decided by a group of media representatives who apply to become part of the selection committee and it's become a bit of running joke, particularly the pound for pound rankings.
Take, for example, the Brazilian individual who dropped Conor McGregor four places to 15th after UFC 194 and that win over Jose Aldo. Things tend to work themselves out, and by and large, the cream rises to the top. Despite the Brazilian individual's ranking McGregor was bumped up a whopping nine places to third in the P4P ranking.
After UFC 195, the updated ranking has been released and although Demetrius Johnson hasn't fought since September, Jon Jones' return to top of the heap has been confirmed just in time for Jones' return to the UFC fold in the coming months. It's a year since he took on and defeated Daniel Cormier at UFC 182.
It's been an interesting 12 months for him since that fight but the fact that he can still command the top spot in the P4P rankings just goes to show how valuable he remains to the UFC. With that in mind we'll give it a month or two at most by the time the rematch against Cormier is announced.
Elsewhere, Rafael dos Anjos sees a jump up for his win over Donald Cerrone while Robbie Lawler gets bumped up one for coming out on top of that war against Carlos Condit.
