Joseph Duffy (16-2) has been out of action for the majority of the year following a contractual dispute which resulted in the Donegal man being pulled from the UFC Belfast card. It was later reported that the UFC have agreed to allow the lightweight to fight out the remaining fight on his contract.
Duffy spoke to Ariel Helwani of MMAfighting.com about testing the waters of free agency, earlier this year;
I’m happy in the UFC and I feel I’m treated fairly, and I’ve enjoyed working with them, [but] the offer they made me, there’s no way I would accept that. Even if I lost my last fight I wouldn’t accept that.
I don’t feel I’m a greedy person, but I know to secure my future, and I’m putting my body on the line and my health on the line.
One shot and it could all be over, so I need to get to the point where I can start moving forward and my future isn’t a worry
As reported by mmanytt.se, the O2 Arena in London will play host in what could be his last time competing under the UFC banner when he faces off against Reza Madadi, a veteran of the sport.
Duffy will enter the octagon on the night as a heavy favourite over his 38 year old counterpart. If victorious, it would seem every bit as fitting as the fight takes place on the 18th of March - which only adds to a bumper weekend of sport as Mick Conlan and Katie Taylor will fly the flag in New York on St.Patrick's weekend as well.
If 'Irish' Joe Duffy can build upon his emphatic win against Mitch Clarke, then there will be numerous organisations bidding for his signature come the end of March.
