The video of Jose Aldo waking up from being knocked out by Conor McGregor captures the sheer brutality of what is a totally unforgiving sport.
MMA is an absolutely brutal sport. Every UFC fight is marked by the splatters of blood all over the ground - but if we're honest, that is part of its appeal. The skill levels, the athleticism and technique of the fighters perhaps all take precedence, but there's a reason that gifs of Conor McGregor's punches tend to go viral in the aftermath of his fights. The moment a knockout happens, whether in boxing or MMA, is comparable to the big hit in rugby. The crowd groans, but they also enjoy it.
But sometimes you see some footage that really and truly elucidates the brutality of the sport. Such as the video that has emerged of Jose Aldo waking up from being knocked out by Conor McGregor in UFC 194.
McGregor took all of thirteen seconds to win the UFC Featherweight Championship on that day in December last year with a frankly scary knockout blow that saw Aldo crumple to the ground.
And the video of Aldo coming to his senses really brings home the brutality of the way fighters choose to earn a living.
