He was itching for a re-match with Conor McGregor, nay demanding it - but when it was offered to him, Jose Aldo turned it down.
With Rafael Dos Anjos pulling out of the UFC 196 headline fight with McGregor because of an injury, the race to fight McGregor is heating up again. We've already seen Cowboy Cerrone and Anthony Pettis throw their name into the ring octagon.

But Jose Aldo's manager claims that the de-throned featherweight champion was offered the first chance to replace the new featherweight champion:
Dana called me, telling what happened and asking if Aldo was in shape to fight. I said he wasn’t and that there wasn’t enough time, and unfortunately he wouldn’t be able to fight next week.
Aldo has only recently returned to training after the December loss to McGregor, and it was less than a month ago when he said that he would only get back into the octagon again for a title fight - or to fight McGregor.
