Jose Aldo arrived home to Rio De Janiero on Thursday to a reception fit for a champion, as his loyal fans turned up to show their appreciation for their hero following the Brazilian's first-round KO loss at the hands of Conor McGregor.
Aldo, who arrived wearing a Chelsea jersey indicating that this must have been a really bad week for him in light of today's news, was hoisted onto the shoulders of one of his coaches and greeted those who turned out to wish him well, before talking to the media about his next move.
Aldo's gym, Nova Uniao posted this to their Instagram account withe caption:
Still the people's champion .... That wasn't a defeat... @danawhiteufc rematch right away @josealdojunioroficial @thenotoriousmma...
It most definitely was a defeat, but Aldo was in a positive frame of mind when he spoke to the media and outlined a possible immediate rematch, or a title fight with Frankie Edgar should McGregor vacate his featherweight belt and move up to lightweight, despite Conor being totally against the idea of vacating anything.
What I’ve done in 10 years won’t be erased in 13 seconds. We win, lose, but learn in the defeat. We will be champion again soon. The next fight can be a rematch, so let’s stay focused.
I don’t know if it’s an immediate rematch or not. We’re talking. Conor wants to move up, he can’t make the weight anymore. Maybe he fights at lightweight. The next fight can be a title fight with Frankie Edgar.
It's good to see him talking positive, considering the dismay he was in following the fight when he sat for 13 minutes facing a wall in the dressing room.
