Dana White has today given an interview which suggests all is not as it seemed with Jon Jones.
After being flagged for a positive test and being pulled from the UFC 200 main event, we were not expecting to see Jones in the octagon again for at least two years while we awaited the results of USADA's complete testing, but it appears as though we may need to rethink that idea.
With Anthony 'Rumble' Johnson taking on Glover Teixeria in a fight to determine who will take on champ Daniel Cormier next as the co-main of UFC 202, the focus of the light-heavyweight division will have been on Las Vegas this week, but after Dana White spoke to The Jim Rome Show this evening, it looks as though that focus is set to shift back to Jon Jones once again.
Well, it's coming back now that it looks like he did not take the supplement that everybody thought he took.
I don't even know if this is public. I don't know if I can talk about it. Normally, I talk about anything, but when it comes to medical stuff, you can't do it. It's looking like Jon Jones did not take the drug everybody thought he took. It looks like it's something else.
I'll let this thing play out and if that's true and that's what USADA and the Nevada State Athletic Commission say happened, it could look good for Jon Jones.
This comes hot on the heels of a video posted by Jon Jones to his Instagram followers claiming that very good news was on the way soon, so clearly he feels that a positive update is on the horizon.
This would not likely see Jones get off scot-free, as there would still be some responsibility on the fighter for ingesting a banned substance, even accidentally, but it would not be as harsh a punishment as first feared and if Dana is correct, we could be seeing Jon Jones back in the octagon sooner than we thought.
We'll keep you updated as we learn more.
