On Wednesday morning, Joseph Duffy was on TV3 to announce his UFC Dublin headline fight against Dustin Poirier.
Later in the day, Conor McGregor's coach John Kavanagh was also on the station, this time to defend the sport - in a debate with Tom McGurk and Eoghan Corry - rather than promote it.
It was clear from the outset that both McGurk and Corry took a dim view of MMA. You might too if you believed, falsely, like Corry, that eye-gouging had once been permitted by the UFC.
Corry also claimed that MMA is "ephemeral and inconsequential, it's not a sport that's here to stay". This was due to a belief that it is a "top down sport", more of an exercise in marketing and entertainment than something with a long-term future.
Overall, despite not being happy with his appearance, Kavanagh probably came off better in the two-on-one.
Not happy how I did there but got caught a bit off guard. Thought I was debating Eoghan not him and the presenter haha. Learn and move on :)
