Earlier this week, following the LA press conference for his fight against Floyd Mayweather, Conor McGregor said that he intends to step back into the Octagon before the end of 2017.
December 30th was the date mentioned by McGregor, adding that his motivation for the fight was a desire to rank higher on the Forbes richest sportsperson list.
That date on the UFC calendar currently has UFC 219 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas pencilled in.
However, according to John Kavanagh, who was speaking ahead of Gunnar Nelson's headline event at UFC Glasgow on Sunday, McGregor may have a different location in mind for the fight.
Quoted by MMA Junkie, McGregor's coach said that his fighter wants to take on Khabib Nurmagomedov in Russia.
He seems very, very motivated to go to Russia in December. I don’t know if he’s been watching Rocky IV or something like that.
Kavanagh's remarks back-up what was recently said by UFC president Dana White. White also said that the current UFC lightweight champion wants to face the number one lightweight contender.
He said, ‘I want Khabib in Russia. Isn’t he fucking awesome? He’s awesome. Conor McGregor is a fucking unicorn.
There’s nothing like him. He’s working on boxing Floyd Mayweather and then he’s talking about fighting Khabib in Russia right after.
