John Kavanagh, head coach of SBG, defender of the honour of MMA.
A man who convinced Paul Kimmage to open up to the idea of the sport, it seems as though when anyone wants to take a pop, an often ill-informed pop at that, we turn to Kavanagh like a cool big brother who comes in and saves the day.
Meryl Streep is the target this time, as the famous actress decided to take a swipe at a sport for its name during her Golden Globes speech, something that already drew comment from UFC president Dana White.
But Kavanagh wanted to have his say too, and on his Facebook page he delivered a cutting takedown of Streep for her stance as an 'outsider', an idea he finds laughable.
Outstanding.
While some have criticised his decision to reply, arguing that it seems as though nobody can talk negatively about MMA without someone publicly roasting them, it seems clear that those making that point are doing so without a familiarity of Kavanagh's social media pages.
This is a man who last week accepted MMAFighting.com's coach of the year award in a dressing-gown while riding a swegway. The man has a sense of humour, and not everything needs to be taken at face value. It was very odd of Streep to bring up sports at all, and Kavanagh took to his own personal Facebook page to give his take on it.
And long may it continue.
