If Conor McGregor is to fight Khabib Nurmagomedov again, his coach, John Kavanagh, would like to see changes made to how he approaches the rematch.
Speaking to ESPN's Ariel Helwani on Saturday night at the Bellator 208 event, Kavanagh admitted that ring rust may have been a factor in McGregor's defeat.
He also said that there were worries about how much else the Dubliner had going on outside of his training camp. Though, he added, that has always been the case.
"I would change a few things around from a training standpoint," said Kavanagh.
To use a ridiculous analogy, it would be a bit like Rocky III.
I want to get the Eye Of The Tiger and go back to train in an old school gym - just disappear.
Get me, Conor, Artem [Lobov] and Peter [Queally], that kind of crew; just disappear for three months and really put in a nightmarish training camp if we’re going to do it again. That would be my requirement to go ahead and do this again.
From the limited amount of chat we've had about it, he wants to do that again. He's excited to do it.
Conor watched it right away but I haven't seen it since. It was like the Aldo fight, I immediately got essays to my phone, 'This is what we're going to do. We're going to do this, we're going to do that.'
The real fire for him will be the Khabib rematch and if we're going to do that, we have to go back to the old school. We've got to commit ourselves to it and everything else goes on the backburner.
