Conor McGregor's SBG gymmate Gunnar Nelson observed many of the same shortcomings as Irish MMA fans when he saw 'The Notorious' buckled by Nate Diaz at UFC 196.
Nelson, however, maintains that should the pair meet again at UFC 200 or in the future, the result will be different.
I think he will take his time and pick him apart a bit better,
he told Daily Star.
I think Diaz won't be able to get him down when Conor is on, and he reserves his energy and his balance is there.
Where many would take a teammate's prediction with a pinch of salt, it's worth noting that when Nelson gave his McGregor - Aldo prediction to Setanta back in December, he claimed he saw the fight being taken into the later rounds, so it's probably fair to say he's not blinded by McGregor's ability.
But the Icelandic welterweight feels the featherweight champion would right his various wrongs if he swapped slaps with the Stockton slugger again.
I think [in] the second [fight] Conor will pick him apart, but I think he'll take a little bit more time doing it,
said Nelson.
Diaz is a tough guy and he's used to being in there, but he [McGregor] should have put him away.
But I think he can if he takes his time.
Meanwhile, when asked about McGregor's next fight and as to whether or not it will indeed be Diaz squaring off with him, John Kavanagh told Whoacast:
I believe it is going to be announced this week.
Kavanagh maintains that no matter who McGregor faces at UFC 200, some fans will be unhappy, but his own attitude is certainly reflective of that of his prized fighter.
The truth is when it is all said and done, fast forward three or four years when he is wrapping up his career, everybody will have been met. All styles will have been beaten,
he said. It seems likely that the first style will be one he and McGregor are yet to conquer.
