A Galway-based gym has received widespread praise on social media after painting over a Conor McGregor mural on its wall, while pledging to replace it with Irish boxing hero Katie Taylor.

The removal of McGregor's mural comes just days after the former UFC star was found liable of assault in the civil case Nikita Hand took against him.  A High Court jury ordered him to pay Ms Hand nearly €250,000.

Galway fitness club remove McGregor mural

On Tuesday evening, Scully Fitness in Annaghdown, Co. Galway posted a video to social media which shows them painting over the Conor McGregor mural that has adorned their walls since 2017.

The video was originally posted to Tik Tok and captioned with a take on McGregor's famous 'does whatever he wants' quote:

The double champ does in fact not do what he wants.

The video has been viewed over 10 million times on Tik Tok since it was originally uploaded on Wednesday. A number of women in the comments of the video praised the gym for the gesture.

Replying to one commenter who asked them to replace the McGregor mural with one of Irish boxing hero Katie Taylor, Scullys responded: 'Will Do'.

While the Galway-based gym has received notoriety for the removal, other establishments are beginning to follow suit.

In a statement to the Irish News, well-known Belfast bar Filthy McNastys said it will be removing a mural on its wall featuring a well-known Conor McGregor quote.

They confirmed to the paper that they'd also be suspending sales of the beer Forged Irish Stout, which McGregor owns.

Yesterday, Proximo Spirits in 2021, which acquired McGregor's Proper No. 12 whiskey, said it would not be using McGregor's name or likeness to promote the drink.

Since 2021, Proximo Spirits has been the 100pc owner of Proper No 12 Irish Whiskey. Going forward, we do not plan to use Mr McGregor’s name and likeness in the marketing of the brand.”

Earlier this week, Danish game developer IO Operative revealed that they would be ceasing all collaboration with McGregor and removing him from their game 'Hitman', where the former MMA star was a side character.

Danish video game developers IO Operative have also ceased collaboration with the former fighter, who featured in the game Hitman 3.

Similarly, following calls from The Rape Crisis Network Ireland, many Irish retailers including Tesco and Spar have de-listed the alcohol products McGregor founded and promoted.
