It seems somewhat incredible that Frankie Edgar and Chad Mendes have gotten this far in their UFC careers without facing each other but that's finally about to change.
The weekend of the 11th and 12th of December is set to be truly staggering for MMA fans with Las Vegas playing host to both the insanely stacked UFC 194 card and also The Ultimate Fighter 22 finale. That card, which doesn't have a specific venue just yet, will now play host to the Edgar vs Mendes bout that is sure to have big implications for the featherweight division further down the line.
Mendes and Edgar have both had a title shot. However, Edgar in particular has bounced back from his defeat to Jose Aldo in 2013 in impressive fashion and, if he can defeat Mendes, he is surely in line for another crack at that belt. Mendes, on the other hand, may have lost to McGregor last time out but his performance that night certainly didn't out him out of contention and should he defeat Edgar, he'll be gunning for another shot at that title.
While the McGregor vs Aldo bout at UFC 194 on December 12th may still be the big draw that weekend, that TUF card is a more than adequate appetiser with Tony Ferguson vs. Khabib Nurmagomedov having already been confirmed last week.
What a weekend it promises to be.
