Listen closely: that faint sound you can hear drifting from a distant horizon is the hammering of 16 hooves, for the four horsemen of the apocalypse come ever closer. We've already endured the absurdity of Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather in a boxing ring, and now we face the possibility of it happening in an octagon, too.
Yep, that's right: Floyd Mayweather is supposedly interested in moving into Mixed Martial Arts, with Dana White admitting that he has held discussions with Mayweather.
White revealed as much to ESPN:
We're talking to Floyd about doing a UFC deal. It's real. He was talking about [boxing] Conor McGregor. Was that real? Have you heard Floyd talk about many things that aren't real? He usually tips his hand when he's in the media and then that shit ends up happening.
We're interested in doing something with Floyd. Everything is a realistic possibility. Mayweather vs. McGregor fucking happened. Anything is possible.
Joe Rogan backed up these comments on his most recent MMA podcast, divulging a recent conversation with White.
Floyd talked about it. This is one thing I can tell you. Dana told me that Floyd wants to make a deal in the UFC. Like legitimately. I texted him, I go 'Is Floyd really talking about fighting MMA?' He goes 'Yeah, he's fucking crazy. I told him he'd get killed. But he's still talking about doing it.
And added to all this, Mayweather bragged during a recent Q&A with fans of his potential earning power in the octagon:
If I want, I can go, I can come right back to the UFC, I can go fight in the Octagon. I can do a three or four fight deal in the Octagon and make a billion dollars.
Do we really want to see McGregor v Mayweather II?
