2015 was supposed to be the year that MMA fans and WWE fans alike got to see how Phil Brooks, A.K.A. CM Punk, could handle himself in the octagon, but unfortunately that never came to fruition.
After signing with the UFC in 2014, CM Punk was given time to train before being thrown into his first professional fight later in 2015, but an injury setback in October ended all hopes of that happening, and in the end the closest he came to a fight was his public twitter beef with Cathal Pendred.
Instead, Dana White has insisted that Brooks will "100%" make his his UFC debut in 2016, and revealed that he will fight a prospect found on his new show "Looking For A Fight" which saw the UFC sign Sage Northcutt in the pilot episode a few months back.
But former UFC contender Kenny Florian isn't so optimistic, and claims that the quietness surrounding CM Punk is a cause for concern. Speaking on 'UFC Tonight', Florian said:
This is what really concerns me because they said he was going to fight in 2015. That he needs some time to train.
Well, that hasn't happened. I know he has dealt with some other injuries and things like that. But the fact that they say that he's not ready concerns me. It shows that, listen, you don't just jump into this sport and say you're going to compete. It takes time and there's a process. There's a reason why they're telling him to take his time. I think his training isn't coming along as fast as they thought and it's unfortunate.
This goes against the word coming out of Roufusport, Brooks' gym in Milwaukee, where his training partners have been praising his efforts, but a fight against someone plucked from what is essentially a reality TV show would be underwhelming for those who have waited for his debut.
