Conor McGregor has spoken about his ambition to reach Floyd Mayweather levels of affluence. With Mayweather earning around $230 million for last May's fight against Manny Pacquiao, McGregor has set himself a lofty target. Nonetheless, it may be achievable, judging by some of the astonishing figures behind his victory against Jose Aldo.
10.1 million
The amount in dollars garnered at the gate, a record for a UFC event at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The arena has a 17,000 capacity, and Dana White estimates that 5,000 of these tickets were purchased in Ireland. This is still well short of the arena's record gate receipts: the gigantic $71 million earned from the Mayweather/Pacquiao bout.
550,000
The amount in dollars McGregor is guaranteed to earn from the fight before his earnings from pay-per-view sales are calculated. This is divided into a $300,000 purse and a win bonus worth $250,000.
Between 3 and 5
The amount in dollars Mcgregor is believed to earn from each pay-per-view sale. McGergor's July fight against Chad Mendes earned 825,000 pay-per-view sales. The exact sales for the Aldo fight will not be released for a number of weeks, but conservative estimates indicate sales are around the one million mark, with some guessing that there could be as many as 1.5 million. Using the lowest of these estimates, McGregor should earn at least $3 million solely from pay-per-view sales. These earnings could stretch as high as $7.5 million using the more opptimistic figures.
273,077
The minimum amount in dollars McGregor will earn for each of the thirteen seconds he was in the octagon with Aldo. This figure is calculated using the conservative pay-per-view estimates above. Should the television figures be high, McGregor could earn as much as $615,384 per second of the fight. McGregor will undoubtedly set a record for earnings per second in UFC. Ronda Rousey currently holds that record: she earned $147,000 per second for her UFC 190 victory against Bethe Correia.
