Ricardo Lamas has never been one of Conor McGregor's biggest fans. Many would call it jealousy but there's no doubt that Lamas has been feeling a bit left out when it comes to the top of the featherweight rankings. Defeats to Jose Aldo and Chad Mendes have seen his standing in the division slip just when McGregor's rise hit overdrive.
That situation saw Lamas angling for a bout against McGregor with delightful little potshots like this parody video that he released back in January.
Harmless fun of course but there's no doubt that Lamas has been edged out of things with McGregor's rise to the top. As such, he's always been quick to pick apart McGregor's game. With UFC 194 less than two weeks away, Lamas hasn't let up on that but he has managed to concede that McGregor does seem to have the upper hand on Jose Aldo in one key area.
Speaking to Submission Radio this week, Lamas stated his belief that Aldo 'is going to take the fight' but that situation is very much dependent on 'how Aldo is going in to this fight mentally'.
It depends if McGregor has gotten inside his head, and if Aldo fights with emotion or not. Because if he starts fighting with anger, he is going to make mistakes, and that’s exactly what McGregor wants.
It really depends on how smart Aldo is, and how smart he fights. From some of the videos that I’ve seen it does look like he’s frustrated him a little bit.
That will be music to McGregor's ears. We all know that getting inside his opponent's head is part one of the McGregor gameplan and Lamas saying that he's succeeding in that regard with Aldo, it's just about perfect with UFC 194 just eleven days away.
