Enda Kenny Confirms He Is A Big Fan Of "No-Nonsense" Conor McGregor

We don't believe it is too much of a stretch to assume that quotes this week has shown Our Good Leader Enda Kenny to be a Balls.ie reader.

A few weeks ago, we ranked Taoisigh based on their ability to piggyback on Irish sporting success.

Charlie Haughey topped the list, with Bertie Ahern in second and Mayo's own Enda Kenny in third place. Enda, in recent weeks, has made a concerted effort to rank highly in this list, and has tried to assume the tortured air of the Sports Fan, in seeing the world through the prism of the limitations of his team.

Presumably disappointed by making it third on this list, Enda is now using the remaining years/months/days as leader of Fine Gael to climb the list. This would necessitate the hopping on every bandwagon going, and Enda has now hitched himself to the runaway leader.

Conor McGregor's nomination and subsequent winning of RTE's Sportsperson of the Year award divided opinion, with Eamon Dunphy particularly vociferous in his criticism. While many objected to McGregor's victory as a matter of personal taste and opinion, there was the objective irony of a man whose sport is not recognised by Sport Ireland winning a sporting award in association with Sport Ireland.

Enda, however, is not joining the queue of begrudgers. Quite the opposite, as he told the Irish Sun:

Conor McGregor is a fabulous athlete. He is a no-nonsense man, obviously. And he is a worthy winner of the Sports Personality of the Year.

Sometimes when you see the fights in the cage you might say it’s brought boxing or fighting to a new dimension here.

McGregor is a world superstar and he is at the top of that particular category or two categories.

"When you see the fights in the cage" may seem fairly vague terminology, but nonetheless, Enda seems a fan. He'll presumably have an eye on our updated rankings, but given that Bertie is ahead of him, a man who tried to build a sports stadium out of vanity/conviction of his sports fandom, he has a bit further to travel.
