Eddie Alvarez has been going after Conor McGregor for a long time. He's wanted to fight the Dubliner since well before McGregor's loss to Nate Diaz - and takes as many shots as he can at the Irish fighter.
Since Alvarez shocked Rafael Dos Anjos to take the UFC lightweight title, which was a target for McGregor before Dos Anjos pulled out with injury.
That should mean that they will be on a collision course at some point, something that Alvarez is eager to get plenty of shots in early. Speaking at UFC 201, Alvarez launched straight into an attack on McGregor's fans:
You McGregor fans are a bit swayed, you're a bit biased and you aren't seeing what I see as a fighter. What I'm seeing are not the right style match-ups. He's fighting the perfect style matchups for himself and he's not fighting the guys that can threaten him the way I can or the way any of these wrestlers can threaten him.
Calling fans swayed and biased is harsh. Does that essentially mean that he's saying they will blindly follow McGregor whatever he does? Alvarez went from there to take on McGregor, and why he would be a stylistic nightmare for the Dubliner.
If you look at his fights he's not been in a lot of bad positions and there is a reason for that. The style match-ups have been in his favour and I'm not the style matchup that is in his favour. I can put him in bad places and I don't think he will be able to deal with that or overcome it.
