We're now in an age where athlete's ratings on video games can upset an awful lot of people.
We saw the first true example of that in the MMA world recently when a leaked screenshot of the upcoming game EA Sports UFC 2 was captured displaying former WWE Superstar CM Punk with an overall rating of 85. Usually saved for football fans who play far too much FIFA than they should, a ratings debate kicked off among MMA fans who were furious that a fighter with zero professional fights could be given such a high rating.
At the time, we expressed the common belief that this was not the final rating for Punk, or for anyone in the beta, but now a developer who is working on the game has confirmed that idea and revealed that the actual rating will be far more sensible:
CM Punk in the beta right now is an 85, which is just placeholder, but the Internet just lost it's mind over CM Punk having an 85 rating. That's not what his rating is going to be when the game comes out.
I'm pretty sure CM Punk, when the game locks in, is going to have the lowest overall rating in the game. But when he does have his first fight, if he just lights it up and looks like a prodigy, we'll have to go into the servers [and bump him up].
The game will have over 250 fighters on the roster, and Punk will likely have the lowest rating, which is fair because he is probably the only fighter in the game who nobody other than those who train with him every day knows a single thing about.
Dana White has confirmed that we will be seeing CM Punk in the octagon in the not too distant future, and by the sounds of things EA Sports will be updating the fighters' ratings regularly which sounds good to us. The only question that remains is how the ratings of the likes of Holly Holm, Robbie Lawler (a 93 rating on the beta), Luke Rockhold, and unsung hero Conor McGregor will look when the game hits the shelves.
