He may be the last man to have beaten Conor McGregor, but the newly crowned UFC interim featherweight champion is the furthest thing from Joseph Duffy's mind.
Calls for a rematch between the pair have been loud ever since Duffy followed McGregor into UFC, but at 155 pounds - Duffy is more concerned about the fighters in his division rather than dropping down.
Duffy's tone has changed in recent months, after originally saying that he'd welcome a rematch with McGregor should either fighter move up or down weight divisions. The Donegal man has resolved to just forget about McGregor:
I’m concentrating on my own career.
I’ve been fighting all my life, and this is all I’ve ever wanted to do. When I left school, I knew I was going to fight pro and this was going to be my career. I’m not thinking about anyone else but myself.
For now, Duffy is fully focused on his second UFC fight in Glasgow this Saturday, when he faces Ivan Jorge.
But is Duffy interested in a rematch should it come about? Definitely, but he sees too many obstacles in the way, including the challenges of dropping down a weight division:
Even making 155 is not exactly a walk in the park,” Duffy said. “I’ve got to work out and diet hard, and 145 is going to be all year round. Making 145 would be hard work, so we’ll see. If I get into a fight and I need to drop down a division – maybe I wasn’t strong enough, which I’ve never felt before.
Duffy and Jorge are on the main card in Glasgow, and should be fighting sometime after 6pm on Saturday.
