UFC Fight Night 81 in Boston was a bit of a treat for anyone that managed to stay up on a Sunday night to tune in. Dominick Cruz's return from the injury wilderness to take the bantamweight title away from T.J. Dillashaw was wonderful viewing. In truth it could have went either way but when you think of what Cruz has been through to get to this point, it's next to impossible to argue that he deserves that belt.
For Cruz to claim the crown however, meant that Dillashaw needed to lose it and it's fair to say that the now former champ is going to need a bit of time to let that reality sink in. There was a bit of needle in the Octagon after the result was read out and that continued through to the post fight press conference where it was clear that Dillashaw was less than delighted with the split decision result.
In the build up to the fight, the 29 year old was less than pleased with what he felt was the 'extra work' that Conor McGregor had made for UFC fighters. His belief was that all the trash talk and the extraneous nonsense that goes on in the build up to the fight takes away from the spirit of martial arts and speaking at the post fight press conference, he continued in that manner.
This time it was Cruz who was on the end of Dillashaw's complaints and, having just won the bantamweight title, he was only too happy to let everyone know what he thought of Dillashaw's aversion to trash talking and his desire to be a 'role model'. (Continued below)
