Former UFC bantamweight champion Dominick Cruiz is one of the most well-spoken men in MMA. His work as an analyst for the UFC has given him the platform to apply his knowledge as an elite mixed martial arts practitioner, but it's clear that he has a lot of offer in the grander scheme of things also.

On the latest episode of the Joe Rogan Experience, Cruz opened up on his battle back from a series of horrific injuries. After establishing himself as one of the top pound for pound fighters in the world, Cruz tore his ACL twice and pulled his quad muscle off the bone in a run of woeful luck that took three years from his career in his prime.

That struggle took a toll on the fighter and the man, and Dominick Cruz outlined how he realised that he was suffering from depression, and in analysing what the factors in his life that caused it were, he was able to change his outlook and recover.

Joe Rogan sat transfixed as the UFC star dropped a life lesson that culminated in an important message.

Massive respect to Cruz for speaking so honestly, we saw from his immediate reaction to the Cody Garbrandt loss that he has no trouble in sharing exactly how he feels, but this was a powerful message.

It boils down to acknowledging that seeking help is not a sign of weakness, it's the smart thing to do. It's always good to see people of Cruz's standing sharing that message on such a public platform.
