UFC Dual Champion Daniel Cormier has launched a scathing attack on Jon Jones.
The disgraced fighter was last week hit with a $205,000 handed an 15-month backdated suspension by the US Anti-Doping Agency (USADA), after he failed a drug test in the build up to his UFC 214 bout with Cormier last July.
Jones won the fight, but was later stripped of the title after the results of his test came to light. As his suspension was backdated, he is eligible to return to the octagon next month.
It was not the first time he had been in trouble with authorities, having tested positive for clomiphene and letrozol in the build up to UFC 200 in 2016.
Many, Cormier amongst them, have questioned the punishment handed out to Jones on this occasion, claiming it is too lenient for someone who has had issues with banned substances in the past. Last night, he took to his Instagram page to call out Cormier for refusing to accept USADA's judgement.
However Cormier has now responded on his own, and he certainly does not hold back in criticising his rival. He labels Jones as a 'cheat' and a 'scumbag' in a cutting post.
So here we go again Jonny boy. First off, if you did nothing wrong and were “innocent“ then you’d have never been suspended. You’ve had to stand before these people and arbitrators so many times it’s insane. So you slipped again, how many times can one man slip? I’ve been tested 70 times and I haven’t slipped once. How do you explain that?
And on top of all the cheating you’ve done around UFC 182, UFC 200 and UFC 214 that’s not even the straw that broke the camel’s back. You are actually a SNITCH! You think you’re the only one that’s been offered this deal? No, you’re just the only scumbag low enough to take it! Which one of your teammates did you tell on to get this joke of a punishment from USADA!
I thought there was nothing lower than a cheater but it’s not surprising that you show me a whole new level. You’re a cheater and a SNITCH! Get off my page and go do some coke, or steroids or whatever you losers do in your spare time. #doublechamp
There is certainly a lot of bad blood between the pair, and their rivalry shows no signs of subsiding any time soon. With Jones now free to fight once again, surely a rematch is on cards in the not too distant future.
