UFC 187 was absolutely brilliant, and hot on the heels of such a fantastic event Dana White has quickly announced who will be next in line to challenge for the title in the light heavyweight and middleweight divisions.
After wearing down Anthony 'Rumble' Johnson and securing a submission victory, Daniel Cormier will defend his light heavyweight title against the man that Rumble absolutely smashed in Swedish fighter Alexander Gustafsson.
Gustafsson was absolutely devastated after losing to Johnson in Stockholm, but he now has an excellent chance to bounce back and if he can recapture the form that saw him push Jon Jones to the very limit back in March, 2014, then we should have an excellent fight to look forward to. Some thought that perhaps Ryan Bader would get a shot at DC following their very public recent beef, but Bader will have to join the queue as Dana White said on 'UFC Tonight' that Cormier v Gustafsson will happen later in the year.
Another impressive performer at UFC 187 was Chris Weidman, who hasn't looked like losing his title at any moment since he conquered Anderson Silva. Next up for Weidman was expected to be wither Jacare Souza or Luke Rockhold, and Dana again confirmed to 'UFC Tonight' that the opponent has been decided:
We don’t have that fight set up yet, we don’t know when it’s going to be, but that will be the fight. Luke Rockhold will get the next shot at the title.
So there you have it. Daniel Cormier vs Alexander Gustafsson and Chris Weidman vs Luke Rockhold are happening later this year. While there is a lot of hype building behind Jacare Souza and may will be disappointed that he hasn't got the shot at middleweigh, both fights have the potential to be crackers.
