It was one of the more awkward taunts in recent UFC history when Ronda Rousey's opponent Bethe Correia said that she hoped Rousey doesn't commit suicide after getting humiliated by her. What is worse about those insensitive comments was that Rousey's father commited suicide when she was younger.
The Brazilian may have apologised for the comments, but UFC President Dana White said that Correia definitely knew was she was doing. Speaking to CBS Sports Radio, White said she "absolutely" knew the context and the history of Rousey's father:
She's been playing that game. There's people that are really good at playing the head games. Conor McGregor is one of the best I've ever seen, and Bethe has been doing that for sure. But Ronda's a tough one to do it (against). Ronda is one of the most mentally strong human beings I've ever met in my life.
While White did say he had the utmost respect for "the biggest star in the history of female combat sports", he did say that the fight will be a lot closer than people think. That said, Rousey was able to return the smack talk to the also undefeated Correia saying:
If I beat you quickly, that’s me at my nicest and most merciful. That means you get to go home unscathed with a paycheck. If I make the fight last longer, that means I don’t like you and I want you to go home looking different than the way you walked in – and I don’t like this chick.
This will definitely be one to watch tonight in Brazil.
