Conor McGregor divides opinion here in Ireland. While there are some who absolutely love his bravado, confidence, and antics he gets up to when he is building hype for an upcoming fight, there are also those who think he goes to far, or simply don't like his personality.
He has a reputation for "talking trash" about his upcoming opponents, and often it is very entertaining, but probably the best moment from episode 5 of the UFC's ultra-popular mini-series "embedded" came when McGregor talked honestly about why he 100% believes he will beat Chat Mendes and become the UFC interim featherweight Champion, which can be seen at 2:28 below:
The training's done now - it's about the feel. Minimal contact. Movement. Feeling positions. It's not about time. It's not about the push. It's about the feel. Just trying to feel the fight.
He can plan his takedowns. Their approach to the game is singular. They have a certain amount of movements, a certain set of positions they must succeed in otherwise they will fail. If you come up against me with a singular approach, it's not enough. If I was to give him some advice, it would be to have a back-up plan.
What other athlete talks like that?
It's certainly refreshing for those who are not a fan of his insults and "trash talk" and for those who do it's just another reason to love the man.
Love him or hate him, Conor McGregor is special.
