UFC star Conor McGregor has blamed his attack on a bus containing lightweight rival Khabib Nurmagomedov for failing to be higher on the Forbes 100 richest sports stars list, and also revealed that there was a third title fight arranged in Brazil prior to his arrest at the UFC 223 media day.
McGregor had been mooted to fight Khabib Nurmagomedov following UFC 223, but another option being explored was an interim welterweight title fight against Rafael Dos Anjos, while current champion Tyron Woodley was recovering from surgery. The fight was being targeted as the headline bout of UFC 224 in May.
The Dubliner took to Instagram to argue that if a proposed welterweight bout with Rafael Dos Anjos had taken place as planned, then the 29-year-old would have been bumped up to number two on Forbes' list:
Made it to number 4 on the Forbes list this year. If I had of fought on the agreed May 12th bout in Rio De Janeiro, I would have surpassed Ronaldo and Messi to take 2nd place. Something came up however... Ah well, still under 30.
As it stands, McGregor is still awaiting the results of his UFC 223 rampage. The Notorious is set to return to court in New York on the 14th of June and the results of that court case will go a long way to determining his next fight as well as his longterm future with the UFC.
