In the ring after Michael Conlan won his debut pro fight with a third round stoppage of Tim Ibarra at the Madison Square Garden Theater, Conor McGregor was asked about the possibility of a fight between himself and Floyd Mayweather. McGregor said it was in the works but that the night should be about Conlan, the man he had walked to the ring less than 30 minutes earlier.
McGregor could not help but be the centre of attention, though.
As he departed the ring, the UFC lightweight champion confronted the boxing media and, in particular, ESPN's Dan Rafael, one of its most prominent members.

In his column for ESPN, Rafael said that McGregor had asked a publicist for Conlan's promoter Top Rank, 'Who's the boxing guy?' The publicist pointed to Rafael, who was sitting ringside.
That resulted in McGregor taking a stroll to have a few words.
You're the boxing guy? I'm the boxing guy. Watch me take over boxing, trust me on that.
No one in this boxing game knows what's coming. Trust me on that. I'm going to step in there and shock the whole goddamn world. Trust me on that.
Look me in the eyes, 28 years of age, confident as a motherfucker long, rangy, dangerous with every hand. Trust me, I'm going to stop Floyd and you're all going to eat your words. The whole world is going to eat their words.
