With all of his legal troubles out of the way Conor McGregor can finally focus on his UFC return. The fight that everyone wants is undoubtedly against Khabib Nurmagomedov, with the bus attack at UFC 223 Media Day in April only adding to the interest in getting the two lightweights in the octagon.
In a video posted by TMZ, sports reporter Adam Glyn attempts to get some details about the Irish man's return to the octagon, and while McGregor was relatively coy, he did seem to hint that a deal was close to being finalised for a bout with the Dagestani fighter:
AG: Are we close to seeing you fight again?
CMcG: Very close, it's not official but we're close
AG: Are we going to see it in 2018?
CMcG: I believe so. I hope so.
AG: In New York city?
CMcG: I'm pushing for it. I fucking love New York city, to be able to be here a free man. We'll see what happens, I'd love to fight in the Garden again but I believe this one is in Las Vegas.
MMA journalist Ariel Helwani has already laid out three potential dates for the Notorious' return to action,k stating that October 6th in Las Vegas is the date the UFC want McGregor to return to action, but also proffered two other options:
If they can't get it done for October 6th there's also that December 29th date in Las Vegas in the T-Mobile arena. Right now November 3rd at Madison Square Garden, which would obviously be a huge platform - Irish population here Russia population here - isn't the date that's being discussed but you never know, there's really three on the table at the moment, that would be a distant third.
October 6th is to me what everyone wants first and foremost, most importantly that's what the UFC wants
McGregor also had some kind words for former rival Jose Aldo, who beat Jeremy Stephens last weekend at UFC Calgary:
I was so happy for him, honestly truly happy. See the joy he had after it. It's a crazy business, I know he's gone through a lot of stuff so to see him come back with a great finish. I'm very happy for him and his coach Andre Perderneiras. The whole of Ireland was happy for Jose Aldo that night.
