The RTÉ Sports Awards were held last night. Rory McIlroy won Sports Person of the Year, the Cork Ladies Footballers are Team of the Year and Joe Schmidt won Manager of the Year.
There were 12 nominees for Sports Person of the Year but not among them was Ireland's star of the Octagon, Conor McGregor. The Dubliner has had a great year, returning from a knee injury, winning both his fights, including one in his home city and is now on the verge of a featherweight title fight against Jose Aldo.
The lack of recognition for McGregor at the national broadcaster's awards night does not seem to have bothered him too much though but he still addressed it via a short statement on his Facebook page.
I appreciate the curiosity about my absence from these 'Sport Awards'.
Credit with RTE however, is not what I seek. It is cash.
And as Executive Producer of my 6-part series 'NOTORIOUS', airing January 26th, cash is what they pay.If it's PURE Sport you want though. The ORIGINAL sport of the Human Race. The Sport of Unarmed Combat. The Sport of Survival. The Sport before the term 'Sport' was even created...
Catch 'UFC Fight Night Boston: McGregor - Vs - Who gives a fuck we are still watching.'
