It's clear that the UFC will be introducing a new commentator in 2017, with the mystery candidate who Dana White described his "dream" and somebody he has been chasing for years apparently destined to sign up with the company.
But we have been left in the dark as to who it is.
Obviously while Mike Goldberg is still contracted with the company it would be wrong for them to name his replacement, but that hasn't stopped MMA fans from speculating wildly.
Some believe that it is destined for legendary WWE commentator and huge fan of MMA, Jim Ross, to join forces with Joe Rogan and blow us all away, but those views seem baseless at this moment in time, sadly.
On the other hand, another name that had been thrown around the world of social media was Jim Rome. Host of 'The Jim Rome Show' on CBS, he is not somebody who will be too familiar to sports fans on this side of the world, but his show is certainly popular and his introduction as a UFC commentator would be big news in the US.
Chael Sonnen certainly thinks the job is his, as he let slip during the most recent episode of 'You're Welcome', the former UFC fighter's podcast, by claiming that the job had indeed been offered to Rome.
Is Jim Rome going to join Joe Rogan? Is he going to take that offer?
Did I just say something that is not public information? Let's move on...
You can listen to Sonnen, who caught his co-host off guard by with those comments, from around 1:11:00 in the podcast which you can listen to here.
For those who want to know what Rome sounds like, especially in discussing MMA, here's a chat he had with Chael back in 2012 about promoting his fights, and it seems quite funny considering what has gone on since in terms of fighters calling out opponents.
We won't know until the new year, but it appears we have a front-runner for the position.
It needs to be said that Sonnen would not be privy to any negotiations, but it is clear that he has heard something, specifically that an offer for Jim Rome is on the table, from someone he knows in the world of MMA. But then again, it's Chael Sonnen, he could just be stirring the pot deliberately.
For now we'll just have to wait and see.
