Cathal Pendred retired from mixed martial arts this week, and while we've been looking back at his time in the UFC, and Conor McGregor has been singing his praises, an old foe has gotten back in touch, and Cathal is contemplating going back for another go.
Back in July, 2014, Cathal Pendred was a guest on the Ray D'Arcy show for an interview that could not be described as one that went well.
D'Arcy referred to the sport of MMA as 'unbridled violence' and asked Pendred strange questions such as how he felt about people paying to watch him fight, but perhaps the most disappointing aspect was the fact that Cathal was repeatedly called 'Conor'.
MMA fans were very upset by the manner in which the interview is conducted, but now, the olive branch has been extended in the form of a rematch on live TV.
A producer got in touch with Cathal Pendred to see if he was willing to appear on the Ray D'Arcy TV show, and the former UFC fighter asked his twitter followers whether or not he should do it:
Interesting. The reaction has been mixed judging by the replies to that tweet, so we'll wait and see as more develops.
One the one hand, it would be interesting to see how the opinion of D'Arcy and the show's producers have changed since MMA has grown so much over the last 14 months or so, if it has changed at all.
On the other hand, it's fully justifiable if Pendred wants nothing to do with the show.
While we wait to find out whether it's happening or not, you can listen to the first interview in full here.
