For the second time in a year, an opponent which Cathal Pendred faced in the Octagon has failed a drug test following the fight.
The Dubliner beat Augusto 'Dodger' Montano at UFC 188 last month and the UFC announced last night that the Mexican tested positive for "exogenous origin of testosterone metabolites".
In a statement, the UFC said:
Following his bout at UFC 188 in Mexico City on June 13, UFC welterweight Augusto “Dodger” Montano tested positive for exogenous origin of testosterone metabolites. The UFC has a strict, consistent policy against the use of any illegal and/or performance enhancing drugs, stimulants or masking agents by our athletes. As a result of the positive test, Montano has accepted a one-year suspension, effective from the date of the bout, for violating the UFC Fighter Conduct Policy and Promotional Agreement with Zuffa, LLC.
Last year, Mike King tested positive for steroids after losing to Pendred at UFC Fight Night Dublin.
Following the UFC's announcement last night, Pendred tweeted proudly regarding his record. The 27-year-old is 4-1 in the UFC, losing his first fight to John Howard at UFC 189 last weekend.
Not only have I had 5 @ufc fights in less than a year, but 2 of my opponents were on PEDs... AND I beat both of them!
