Those who stayed up late, or got up early, to watch live coverage of the Bellator 206 main event on Channel 5 were left bewildered early on Sunday morning.

In the big fight of the night at the SAP Center in San Jose, former UFC stars Gegard Mousasi and Rory MacDonald went toe-to-toe for the Bellator middleweight title.

Mousasi pummeled McDonald, earning a TKO after just 3:23 of the second round to retain his belt.

Over on Channel 5 though, viewers were being shown Peppa Pig.

Coverage of the event, which began at 3am, had run long.

"It was a government regulation that at 6am, the content was not suitable so they had to switch to children's programming," explained a Bellator official at the post-event press conference. "Peppa Pig, yes."

Bellator president Scott Coker said the promotion is working to ensure that a replay of the fight will be shown on Channel 5.

"That's definitely a hiccup but we will definitely fix that going forward," said Coker.

"Honestly, we thought we would be way off the air before the three-hour mark. It just didn't happen and we ran over and Peppa Pig took over, that's what happened.

"When they switched over, there were a lot of texts going back and forth and they all were not friendly. We were trying to fix it, we thought it was a technical glitch. I can promise you that the next time, it will not happen - we'll keep it to five fights instead of six like we normally do."
