Non-title fights really don't come much better than this.
The UFC has confirmed that Canadian former world title challenger Rory MacDonald (18-3) will throw down with Stephen 'Wonderboy' Thompson (12-1) as the headline event of UFC Ottawa on Saturday, June 18th.
Fresh off his dominant first round knockout victory over contender Johny Hendricks, #2 contender Thompson, 33, will pit his wits against reclusive hometown favourite MacDonald, 26, in front of a partisan crowd at a thus far unconfirmed venue.
MacDonald hasn't fought since suffering a gallant defeat to UFC welterweight champion Robbie Lawlor last July.
Ottawa becomes the ninth Canadian city to host a UFC event. Montreal leads the way, having hosted seven pay-per-view events, followed by Vancouver and Toronto, which have played host to the organisation three and four times respectively.
Regarding UFC 200, Dana White said:
Well, obviously, our announcement about UFC 200 is that we have nothing for UFC 200.
White said the organisation plan to work on this mega-event after UFC 196 this weekend.
