We feel a bit silly here at Balls.ie, as after compiling our power ranking of the best nicknames in MMA just two weeks ago, we have today read an article over at SevereMMA that has potentially rendered our power rankings utterly useless.
Kavanagh was speaking to SevereMMA ahead of the professional debut of Charlie Ward, a fighter who he sounds very enthusiastic about, at Rage in the Cage in Paisley, Renfrewshire, this coming weekend.
After discussing Ward's freakish strength and why this upcoming tournament suits him, he then revealed how he had given his latest star pupil the gift of greatness in the form of one of the best nicknames we've ever heard... Charlie "The Hospital" Ward.
We gave him the nickname ‘The Hospital’ Ward – I think that’s quite fitting. There are some fighters that you might face where you might get submitted, there are some fighters that you go up against where you might get knocked out clean, but if you’re going to fight Charlie, you’re going to leave that fight hurt. There’s no two ways of saying it – you might have to go to the hospital ward. I like that nickname a lot, Charlie is not too fond of it, but I’m going to throw it out there and see if it catches.
Well, lets hope that Charlie warms up to the idea because it is absolutely, 100% going to catch on.
Brilliant stuff.
