Tonight's fixture between Shamrock Rovers and Cork City at Tallaght stadium has been postponed less than an hour before kick off.

After two games in the last three days in Tallaght along with heavy rainfall, the surface was worse for wear. Inspections at 11 am and 4 pm determined that the pitch was playable, but a downpour afterward prompted a third and final inspection, resulting in the game's postponement.

Cork City statement on postponement

In a statement on their social media channels, Cork City expressed disappointment over the game's postponement, highlighting their request to delay the kickoff time and acknowledging the long journey their fans made for today's match.

“Cork City FC are extremely disappointed that today’s game against Shamrock Rovers has been called off so close to kick-off. In particular, we regret the impact it has had on our supporters who had travelled long distances to attend the game. “

“At all times, the club made clear our preference for the game to go ahead, up to and including being willing to delay kick-off to facilitate this, however this was, regrettably, in vain.”
