England's dream of Euro 2024 glory remains very much alive but their performances have not been typical of champions-in-waiting.
Conservatism has been the name of the game for The Three Lions under Gareth Southgate, whose side has lacked the attacking spark of those left in the competition.
Spain have been the standouts, playing some excellent football to reach the final four while the Netherlands have found the net with regularity.
France meanwhile, despite their own conservatism, are a winning machine as evidenced by their runs to the last two World Cup finals.
England have looked nervy in each of their fixtures, beating Serbia by a goal before settling for drab draws with Denmark and Slovenia.
Their last 16 win against Slovakia came in extra-time, while they needed a penalty shootout to get the better of Switzerland in the quarter-finals.
Still, they have benefitted from being in a weaker side of the draw and will harbour hopes of beating the Dutch on Wednesday to reach another major final under Southgate.
Whether they have what it takes to go on and win a major trophy for the first time since 1996 remains to be seen, but they have had some serious backing.
Majority of punters backing England to win Euro 2024
According to Ladbrokes, the majority of punters have backed England to win Euro 2024 outright, ahead of Spain, France and the Netherlands.
A sizable 31.8% of outright bets have been placed on Southgate's side, more than bookies' favourites Spain who have been the subject of 29.2% of bets.
24.1% have opted for France with just 14.9% choosing to take a punt on the Netherlands after they came from behind to beat Turkiye.
A big surprise on the evidence of what we have seen from England this tournament.
However, as ex-Ireland star Kevin Kilbane pointed out, there has been a trend of teams like this version of England going on to win the whole competition in past editions of the Euros.
