A few weeks after having watched Galway destroy Tipperary in the National Hurling League final back in April, speaking at RTÉ's Championship launch, John Mullane declared Micheál Donoghue's side to be his choice to win this year's All-Ireland title.
At the same event, Mullane also announced that, 'If Waterford win the All-Ireland, I'll jump on a horse in the nude and go down the quays'.
He has since somewhat rowed back on his call that Galway will claim Liam MacCarthy this year, owing to his personal allegiances. However, he has not rowed back on his promise regarding the Deise winning this year's All-Ireland.
Asked by Darren Frehill on Morning Ireland if he would follow through on the commitment, Mullane said that he would do it for charity.
At the time, it was a bit of fun. It would be out of elation if we did pull it off. If the lads do pull it off, I'm sure we can come to some sort of agreement. We might do something with getting a charity involved and possibly getting a few bob for the lads' team holiday because the lads have given us a fantastic summer.
Willie Mullins, Aidan O'Brien, Jim Bolger - if they want to promote their horse and if they want to get their picture taken with me going down the quay with Liam McCarthy over the course of the next couple of months, get the money out and we'll talk business.
