Jeff Stelling and Chris Kamara met an Irish broadcasting legend on their tour of Ireland ahead of commentating on the All-Ireland football final next month.
The duo tried their hand at commentating on a gaelic football match for the time in Kerry, with a little help from Micheál Ó Muircheartaigh. In Dingle's Páirc an Ághasaigh, Stelling and Kamara saw the home side defeat An Gaeltacht in a challenge match.
Part of AIB's Jeff & Kammy's Journey to Croker, the Soccer Saturday stars will travel the country finding out about all things GAA before taking their places in the commentary box for the September 17th decider.
Despite meeting Ó Muircheartaigh for the first time, the duo were clearly impressed by the Kerry native.
"He knew something about every single player, like who was a grandson or a great-grandson of who? It was just amazing!", Kamara revealed. "He was talking about players like ‘his great, great grand-dad now, he was the first cab driver in Dingle!’ He’d done all that homework on these kids!"
"The only commentators I could compare to him are Peter O’Sullevan or Micháel O Hehir when they did horseracing, where they had that same legendary status", Stelling added.
Despite a testing start for the duo, Ó Muircheartaigh is expecting them to thrive in the challenge.
"I've no worry. They'll do a good job. They had to start doing soccer themselves. At some stage they were there saying; 'What'll I do?'"
"The game will speak to you", he concluded.
Next week, Kamara and Stelling take the ferry to the Aran Islands. The trip to Croke Park continues.
