Robbie O'Flynn made sure Kieran Kingston knew what he'd been missing against Waterford with a Man of the Match performance in Cork's defeat of Dublin on Saturday.
O'Flynn missed the defeat to the Deise as he was suspended due to a red card he picked up against Galway in the National League earlier this year.
"It was disappointing to be watching at home," O'Flynn told Sky Sports.
"It was kind of surreal. It made me push on a bit more today.
"I was just delighted to be out there in Thurles, it's a great pitch. In the condition that it's in at this time of year, it's great to be out there."
O'Flynn scored five points from play as the Rebels beat Dublin by six and progressed to the second round of the qualifiers.
The Erin's Own player admitted that he and his teammates did feel some pressure due to lacklustre performance against Waterford.
"We always have to try to keep ourselves to ourselves and keep the outside out," he said.
"The thing is to never get too high or too low. We won't be too high after this game and we weren't too low after the other. You have to stay level minded.
"It will give us a boost. It's exactly what we needed."
