There was great drama at the Munster Championship as Patrick Horgan converted a late penalty for Cork to beat Limerick at Supervalu Páirc ui Chaoimh.

It was a great moment for the Cork faithful but some Limerick fans may have a right to feel aggrieved for how Cork got into the position to get a penalty. Two minutes into injury time Aidan O'Connor scored a point to give Limerick a two point lead.

Eagled-eyed viewers noticed that as O'Connor's shot was crossing over the bar the umpire was already handing a new sliotar to Cork goalkeeper Patrick Collins who was then able to hit a quick puckout.

This left Limerick at sea defensively as they weren't expecting the ball to be back in play so quickly. Cork got the ball up the pitch to Shane Kingston who went on a mazing run and was eventually taken down by Kyle Hayes and awarded a penalty. Horgan would of course convert the penalty which gave Cork the lead and they wouldn't lose it from there.

A lot of credit has to go to Collins' quick puckout for catching Limerick off-guard and Cork may have to thank the umpire who gave Collins the sliotar quicker than Limerick were expecting. Speaking after the match Limerick manager John Kiely said he had no opinion about the penalty but voiced his annoyance at how quick Cork were able to take their puck out after O'Connor's point.

I haven’t seen that piece. I’ve no comment on that. The issue should have been at the other end of the field because we scored a point and we almost got punished because the puck out was literally as the ball went over the bar. There was no whistle. It is what it is. That shouldn’t be the talking point of the game really.

The win now lifts Cork off the bottom of the table in the Munster Championship ahead of Tipperary, who they face next weekend as they look to finish the first stage of the Munster Championship on a high.

Limerick are still on top of the table, one point above Waterford and they have a chance to avenge the loss when they host Waterford at the Gaelic Grounds next week.
