Eddie Brennan has stepped down as manager of the Laois hurlers.
In a statement issued by Laois GAA on behalf of Brennan and his management team, it was said:
On behalf of the Laois Hurling Senior Management Team I wish to inform you we will be stepping down & not going forward for the 2021 season.
We would like to thank all persons concerned that we worked with over the last two years and in particular the players who gave us great effort & dedication.
We would like to wish everybody associated with Laois GAA the best in the future and wish them every success
Eddie Brennan
Niall Corcoran
Tommy Fitzgerald
Earlier this month, Brennan was highly critical of the Laois county board in an off the record conversation accidentally released by the GAA Hour podcast.
In their own statement Laois GAA said:
"Laois GAA is disappointed that our outgoing Management team has decided not to commit for 2021. Laois GAA wish to thank Eddie, Niall & Tommy for their dedication & excellent work for the past 2 years. Laois GAA will meet shortly to formalise a process for the next appointment."
The eight-time Kilkenny All-Ireland winner was appointed Laois manager in late 2018. He led them to an All-Ireland preliminary quarter-final win against Dublin in last year's championship before falling to Tipperary at the next hurdle.
Laois exited this year's championship following a narrow loss to Clare in the qualifiers.
