Officials have opened an investigation after a brawl occurred at Haydock Park Racecourse today, with up to 50 individuals involved. A video of the incident has been doing the rounds on social media this evening, and it does not make for pretty viewing.
A number of men become involved in the altercation at the Merseyside racing venue, with things quickly getting out of hand. While a number of course officials are standing in the vicinity of the fight, they are unable to intervene.
It appears as though a woman and a child were also caught in the crossfire.
A Haydock Park spokesperson had this to say:
We take a zero tolerance position on antisocial behaviour. The perpetrators were ejected at the time and we are continuing to work with the Police on this matter.
It is not yet clear what sparked the incident, but it appears to start between two men and escalate from there. Racing fans who were present did indicate that there had been building tension at the venue throughout the day.
